Rediscovering Her Passion
Dana had arrived at this juncture over the past couple of years. First, she'd realized she could no longer run the business the way she had. As an early adopter of Matrix®, it advanced her custom design abilities. Ten years later, she was still the store's only CAD designer. Her efforts to hire another designer had proven fruitless. This limited her work capacity and business growth.
Add to that a rapidly changing jewelry landscape. Online businesses were surging. Brands had grown more demanding, requiring more space for their product. "One joy of being in business for yourself is having control. But I didn't feel in control of my business. I found it very disorienting, especially with the market more and more competitive."
"To regain control, I needed to figure out who we were, what we were, and why," she says. "What was it I loved about the business, and how could I get back to that? I needed to restore my passion for my work." During this time, she faced personal upheaval. Her parents died within three months of each other, and her daughter left for university. Dana was at a crossroads.
